The
New Adult Resource Centre (ARC)

Above: How the new ARC will look when completed.
Following a major capital fundraising appeal over the last twelve
months, which raised over £2 million (including £1
million from the ACT Foundation), work has started on the
new Adult Resource Centre (ARC) at White Lodge Centre. The new building
has been designed by architects Broadway Malyan, responsible for
the unique buildings of the main Centre and Treetops.
This new building
will not only transform the services we are able to offer, but will
allow us to work with 50 more people than we can
currently. At the moment, around 100 people come to the ARC on a
regular basis and over 100 more people benefit from outreach services
including Stroke and Back Care advisors. With the space and flexibility
of our new ARC, we will be able to offer all of these people a beacon
service which will look beyond meeting their needs and towards achieving
their goals.

The
photographs illustrate that the main structural framework is now
complete and the majority of the external blockwork is also virtually
complete. In the top picture the external massing of the building
is clearly defined with the curved rooflight sailing over the top.
The bottom picture shows the steelwork for the bay window piercing
the blockwork skin and smaller feature windows in the distance.
To the right
of the top photograph the roof decking can just be seen being fixed
to the top of the steelwork frame. Both radiused in plan and section
the installation has proceeded well and at the time of writing is
50% complete.
The Contractor
will now complete the roof decking and proceed with the insulation
of the deck and fixing of the single layer membrane. The Swedish
windows have arrived and will be installed in the next month.
At this point in time
the Contractor is on programme.
