Courses and Workshops at Rendezvous: January – April 2009

A diverse range of courses and workshops for people with disabilities and for carers, starting January 2009.

Courses
Our small class sizes ensure a friendly welcome and we can offer specialised equipment if needed.
Please note that there will be no classes during half term week beginning 16 February.

IT Courses at the Karten Suite
In partnership with Strode’s College, Egham.

Managing Your PC (5 weeks) £20
Tuesdays 13 January – 10 February 1.30pm-3.00pm
A tutorial in how to keep your computer secure and how to clean up unnecessary files. This course also covers file management, personalising your workspace and how to update your system. Basic mouse and keyboard skills are required.

A Taste of Excel (5 weeks) £20
Wednesdays 14 January – 11 February 1.30pm-3.00pm
This course introduces you to the principals of Excel and will cover setting up a simple worksheet, setting headings, entering data and performing simple calculations. No prior knowledge is required though good mouse and keyboard skills are essential.

Word Processing using MS Word (10 weeks) £40
Wednesdays 14 January – 25 March 10.30am-12.00pm
Learn the basics of word processing and be able to produce simple documents. This course will cover how to change text, copy, paste, spell check, save, print and some common formatting tips. No prior knowledge is required though mouse and keyboard skills are desirable.

Making Invitations and Posters (5 weeks) £20
Tuesdays 24 February – 24 March 1.30pm-3.00pm
Explore your creative side in MS Word by using clipart, borders and word art to make a poster or invitation using word processing software. Save and print out your project. Basic mouse and keyboard skills are required.


Leisure and Life Skills Courses

Embroidery for All (10 weeks) £40
In partnership with Strode’s College, Egham.
Wednesdays 14 January – 25 March 1.30pm-3.30pm
An ideal course for those who would like to learn a variety of embroidery stitches and techniques in a relaxed and friendly environment. Suitable for beginners and for people with some previous experience.

Expert Patients Programme – Living with a Long-term Condition (6 weeks) FREE
Wednesdays 4 March – 8 April 10.00am-12.30pm
Living well is a free self-management course for people with long-term conditions such as stroke, Parkinson’s and heart disease. Come along to learn skills to manage your condition better. Please contact 01372 201709.

Principles of Pilates for Wheelchair Users

Upper body workout using dyno bands and principles of Pilates to strengthen and stretch the body.

Pilates for Beginners

Pilates is a gentle non-aerobic exercise to help relieve tension, strengthen core muscles and help improve posture and flexibility.
All Pilates classes are delivered in a relaxed and friendly setting by a trained teacher.

Yoga Taster I (3 weeks) FREE
Thursdays 29 January – 12 February 2.00pm-3.30pm
Yoga Taster II (3 weeks) FREE
Thursdays 5 March – 19 March 1.30pm-3.00pm
Yoga promotes health and happiness by working on the mind, body and spirit. The exercises improve circulation, boost energy, calm the mind and the nervous system, and promote relaxation.
These sessions are offered through Surrey County Council’s Adult and Community Learning Programme.
