Woking Lions Martian Run 2024

The Woking Lions are once again hosting the hugely popular 'Martian Run' on Horsell Common.  The race is organised completely by volunteers, many of whom are local runners, and all proceeds are distributed to local charities.  White Lodge are extremely grateful to be one of the beneficiaries of this amazing event.

By simply entering you'll be helping local charities by way of your entry fee.  You could go a step further and run for 'Team White Lodge'.  We'll kit you out in a White Lodge running vest and help you set up a JustGiving fundraising page, no fixed targets, no pressure!  You'd be part of our bigger team of White Lodge runners and marshals, getting behind this wonderful community event.

Sunday 16th June 2024 at 9 a.m. 

The race is organised completely by volunteers many who are local runners and all proceeds are distributed to local charities that are carefully selected by the Woking Lions.  2023 number surpassed previous years! £13,500 was raised and given to local charities from our last run. For 2024 we would like to surpass that.  

The sandpits on Horsell Common are the site where the Martians first landed in H.G. Wells novel The War of the Worlds.  Our race is in it’s sixth year and the route always goes through the historic sandpits.

Race timing is provisionally booked as follows:

9.00 2km Mini-Martians race

9.30 21km race

9.40 10km race

9.50 5km race

Where

Horsell Common, Woking.  The start and finish will be in McLaren Technology Park (same as previous years).  The date is provisional as it is subject to the Formula 1 2024 calendar which is not yet published, however its great to start to plan and programme things in 1 year ahead!

We will be updating this section shortly when things are confirmed and once we have confirmed parking arrangements At this point we are not selling car park passes.

Please consider leaving your car at home.  Share a ride with someone, cycle, or walk.  Parking spaces will be limited and cars pollute our beautiful countryside.

The Race

A choice of 2k Mini-Martians Race (Age restricted kids race), 5k, 10k or 21k distances through the heathland of Horsell Common.  The route is flat with a mixture of shaded woodland, heathland, the famous sandpits and grassy meadows.  The 2K fun race will be around the McLaren parkland, all in close distance of the Race Village. The 5k and 10k routes are a single lap, the 21k is two laps.

The runs will start from 9.am The cut-off time for the finish of all distances will be 12:30.

All finishers will be awarded a medal (including the mini-martians race) and there will be cash prizes for the adult race winners.
